Previously an operating unit within Denel Dynamics, Denel Integrated Systems Solutions (DISS) was re-constituted as an independent operating division within Denel on 1 April 2009 with its own Board of Directors. This move was stimulated by the Cabinet decision in June 2008 that declared DISS to be a strategic asset that would be sustained and developed further whilst remaining State owned.

DISS is a small company that focuses on level 5+ of the acquisition hierarchy, with the sole purpose of supporting the SANDF in the acquisition of its Ground Based Air Defence System capability. In doing so, DISS remains totally product independent ensuring that the best solutions are presented to the SANDF in terms of its GBADS requirements. This requires DISS to participate in the process from the early inception phases with modeling and simulation support right up to fielding the systems, through life-cycle support and eventual de-commissioning.

This requires a strong system orientation with the emphasis on design and integration of complex systems in the domain of ground based air defence. Great value is placed on human capital in this process and people development is a key focus area in the DISS strategy.

Initiatives include the ongoing development and certification of system engineers through the INCOSE CSEP programme, the young system engineers development programme and the certification of programme managers through the PMI on the PGMP programme.

DISS also strives to fulfill its role as a responsible corporate citizen and all the members of the company are encouraged to participate in the various programmes launched by DISS.
